1986 Honda XL250R Dual Sport Plated Bike. This bike is in AMAZING condition. People have a hard time believing this bike has never been restored. It has the original seat on it! Runs and rides great. I bought this bike from the original owner, the bike comes with a maintenance/journal that is amazing, it has details from MPG logs down to details including what type of wax was used to clean it! I had this bike on auction about two years ago and it went to $3500.00. The buyer wanted to re-live his past. After the sale the buyers son sent a message that his Dad had died, but if I wanted he would still honor the sale. After consideration I decided to keep it. I bought this in a basket years ago and spent hours trying to put it back to original as I could. It is as close as I could get considering how hard it was to find plastics and other parts. Engine, transmission and frame parts are no problem. I have turned down many offers for it but could never bring myself to sell. I'm now 65, handicapped and a DAV, I can't start it or even get on it. If you are local to Mecklenburg county Virginia I reserve the right to not sell to you, just can't stand the thought of seeing it after the sale. This bike has been the love of my life. It will need a good cleaning to get it into a collection, it's been setting in the garage for over a year and dusty. This morning I put gas in it and it started on the 2nd kick. Runs even better than it looks, too many new parts to list, Mileage is original to bike. If no one buys this in a reasonable time I may change my mind end the sale, and put it back in the garage.

It was a father/son project. I was told that he installed new rings and redid the valves and new clutch. Could be true, because I do see new gaskets in place. Pumper carb works very good. Bike starts right up, no trouble. Pulls strong. I have a few extra parts that come with the bike, such as left switch control, kill button, and decompression cable. Bike functions as it should, however, the lights are not hooked to the wiring harness. Wiring harness is stock and looks to be mostly there, from what I can tell. Headlight with fairing is new. Tail light is used, and is missing the bulb and holder, so the lights will have to be sorted out. As you can see, there are enough aftermarket parts on this bike to give it a very nice look. Looks like it was a frame up restoration. I also like the Malcolm Smith seat. Haven't seen one of those in years. Keep in mind, obviously, there was some money spent on the bike. But, to the Honda collector/purist, this bike would be considered a project, because it would need some stock part replacements to be how it was when new. Right now, it catches the eye of the person looking for a very clean, presentable bike with get-up-and-go to enjoy in the dirt, and . . . . . . it's a Honda. Vin# JH2HF0317FS006730 Clean title in my name, currently registered(month tag says Aprl, but expires July 8 2015, the DMV did not give me the month tag when I registered it) Guy I bought the bike from said he was the original owner(have not verified that) When I got it, it had 88 tags, and owner said it had been sitting in his garage 27 years(from the layer of dust on it, I'm pretty sure that was accurate) Please see below video of the bike being rode(please forgive the video quality, took it with a I-phone in my shirt pocket) Now the details....Original owner had drained the fuel before storage, and the tank is perfect inside. The front tire has been replaced, the rear tire has some dry rot and needs replacement. The cam plug has been replaced and valve cover resealed(cam plug leaked)New air filterNew plugNew float and carb bowl gasketOil has been changed with Castrol 10-40 motorcycle oilStarts, does not smoke, no oil leaks, runs and rides. Has good power and climbs hills no problem. All the electrics work and wiring harness is unmolested. All the original parts, lights, blinkers, ect, are on the bike. Things that need fixingFuel seeps/slow drip from the accelerator pump cover on carburetor. The accelerator pump diaphragm needs replacement. I have been unable to locate this part.There is a very faint ticking when cold that goes away when warmed up, maybe an exhaust leak/possibly needs a valve adjust, or could be something else, I'm not a motorcycle mechanic, so I don't know for sure.Back tire has dry rot and needs replacementHas one key, if you want a spare, you have to have one madeThe coil/spark plug wire insulation is stiff. Not cracked or arcing, but may need replacement in the near future.It has various scuffs and scratches in the finish, but is in good condition for it's age. 1982 Honda XL250R, with only 1,215 original miles! Original local bike. California TITLE and CURRENT registration and insurance - in my name. These are wonderful dual-purpose bikes. They are getting really hard to find in original condition. NOT restored. I think it's as-is from the factory, although I'm the second owner so I couldn't swear the first owner didn't change something. Plenty of power for short jaunts on the expressway, but great for in-town or trails, too. Very easy to ride. 70 mpg on regular fuel, very reliable and low maintenance. 6-speed transmission. Quiet muffler with a spark arrestor that is CA forestry approved. Factory tool kit. Needs nothing - ready to ride home. You are unlikely to see yourself every time you turn a corner on this one. btw, the first pic is a stock pic from the internet so you can see how they were originally delivered for comparison, the second pic shows my CRF230 (not for sale) behind the bike for sale, and the 3rd pic shows me going off for a short hop around the neighborhood.
